Meet @imamhamdani18. From Pakistan, a Berklee graduate and resident of California. A blues guitarist with a study of Hindustani classical, Flamenco and West African music under his belt. He's in the UK as I prepare an event with him via my music platform @QalandarArts and this is a purely improvised piece in my back garden called 'Hassy's backyard Desi Blues'.

The Jazz at Lincoln Centre held a virtual 'Worldwide Concert for Our Culture' on April 15th and #BaqirAbbas, from Lahore in Pakistan was invited to contribute to this concert, designed to lift peoples spirits the world over during this corona lockdown. QalandarArts has engineered something very special. The coming together of Baqir Abbas from Lahore, and Tahir Qawwal of Fanna-Fi-Allah Sufi Qawwali from Canada, jamming in Lahore a few days ago. Whilst visiting the Sachal Studios, Najat Ali, conductor of the ensemble along with his younger brother Danish Ali decided to jam. Entirely improvised and impromptu. Outstanding! An Argentinian Tango in Lahore!

As well as being the sitar element of Sachal Jazz, Nafees Ahmad is also the Musical Director at The National Academy of Performing Arts in Karachi, Pakistan. I recently surprised him with a visit and in return Nafees put on an impromptu concert which I would have paid good money to see! He unleashed himself on the sitar and it was mind boggling!
